Apologies for following up my own email, but it escaped from my
edit buffer before I noted that:

:: CATIA window pops up in window "0". Does anyone has tried it and
:: knows how to resolve this issue? BTW, the same problem happens with
:: XV or some other graphical programs.

: It may be an attempt to keep people from using what was intended as a
: one-workstation license to run multiple concurrent copies, [...]
: The obvious way around it is to configure the AIX box to bring
: up the native X on screen 1, and an Xvnc as screen 0.

but since xv does the same thing, it's more likely that somebody
has set the DISPLAY environment variable in their .cshrc, or some such snafu
(though if there are *any* programs for which it *doesn't* occur... hrm).
