fullscreen mode

For once I've VNControlled a server with same resolution as the client,
and seen that bug annoying already reported by some people: putting the
mouse at the bottom of the screen brings up the local taskbar instead of
the remote taskbar.
For me, this happens under VERY specific required conditions (parameters
below are my regular setup -- changing any of them makes the bug
disappear for me) :
~Running client on Win95 OSR2 (Win98/NT4 seems fine)
~Server taskbar at least in AutoHide mode
~Client taskbar at least in AutoHide + AlwaysVisible mode
~Using full-screen mode with full-screen prompt DISABLED
(else this modal prompt will fix the viewer window's z-order)
~(Having or not the password-prompt doesn't seems to matter,
because it comes before the viewer's window)
~Starting connection from a DESKTOP SHORTCUT to a .vnc file!
(or when activating it in a path folder from Start|Run)
=directly running the .vnc file or vncviewer doesn't bug
=running the shortcut from an open folder doesn't bug
=running the .vnc file from the desktop doesn't bug
It looks like that a full-screen VNCviewer puts itself in topmost mode
each time it is focused, but starts at (or is sent back to) the bottom
of the topmosts z-order (thus "under" the local topmost taskbar) when
run by from a desktop shortcut; maybe some focus thing done on
termination by the shortcut-handler after it has launched vncviewer...
Two tips for this trouble:
~ When your local taskbar appear, simply click in it on the VNCviewer's
taskbar button. This fix the viewer's z-order and after that the remote
taskbar will pop-up correctly for the rest of the session -- even if
your local taskbar is "Always visible" and even if you use the local WIN
key (or CTRL+ESC) during the session.
~ Another way is to click on some empty place of the remote desktop,
then depress the TAB key: the remote taskbar will pop-up. Previous tip
is more practical, but this one may possibly get handy when using
cascading VNC (i.e. you start another VNCviewer on the remote server for
controlling a 2nd server through the 1st one).
