Different Passwords

Greetings,
I've been a happy user of VNC 3.3.3r2 on Windows NT 4 (SP6a) and Windows
2000 for a while now. Due to a change in our environment, I'm trying now to
take advantage of the WinVNC feature to have both global and per-user
passwords. If I read the documentation correctly, the global password should
apply iff there isn't a password defined for a particular username. I
haven't had any success in getting this to work, and thus have the following
questions. Feel free to flame away if this is somewhere in the docs or FAQ
and I just missed it -- a pointer to the relevant info would be helpful,
too.
Is this a known bug in r2 requiring an upgrade to r7?
The documentation simply says <username> for the registry key name. Is this
just the username, or does the domain need to also be included when using
domain accounts? I presume that the VNC client instructs the server on the
username. How does this work when using the java client?
The documentation does not suggest how to edit the password values for
specific users when setting them up. I tried using the VNC service helper to
modify the password, but there was no visible change in the binary value
stored in the registry. What gives?
