Quick answers to your querys :)
The client stops working.
The black screen is displayed in the client window. The message is behind
the window, i.e. you either alt tab to the message or close the window and
its there.
The error accurs on the client machine (win2k).
Reboot of client fixes the error.
The graphics card is a Matrox G100.
Your theory about memory leak seems likely to me, in the past few minutes I
have noticed other corruption, when moving the horizontal bar in explorer
that devices the tree from the file list the mouse pointer and the bar do
not move, but after releasing the mouse button the bar has moved and there
is a mouse pointer still attached to it.
Regards
Andy

What stops working? The Server or the client?

Where is the black screen? Displayed inside the client? Where is the
message?

Which machine is this error occurring on? The same machine as you try the
viewer on?

Reboot of client or server?
It sounds like you're talking about the client, and that there's some
hideous memory leak in your graphics drivers under Win2K. Are you using a
very recent card, or a driver for a card other than the one you actually
have (e.g. using ATI Compatible instead of ATI 3D Rage Pro or similar)?
Cheers,
