Linux client Mac Server

I apologize if this question has been answered before, but I was unable to
find it in the mailing list archives. I have a linux box, RH6.2 x86, and
a Mac running 8.6. I am trying to run the server via the mac, and the
clinet on linux. I have the Mac set up properly, because I can log into
it from windows, but from linux I always get:

VNC server supports protocol version 3.3 (viewer 3.3)
VNC authentication failed

I know that I am typing the password correctly, so I can only imagine that
the password that I am typing is not being transmitted correctly or
something. Can anyone make any suggestions on how I can get around
this. I have tried the xrfbviewer-0.0.2 that was just released, and that
works a little, but not to the extent that I would like it to, yet. Any
help would be greatly appreciated. If this question has been addressed
before and I was just unable to find it a link to the thread would
hopefully be all that I need. Thanks again.

Regards,
