Excel dies on NT machine running VNC -- Help???

We've been using VNC for quite awhile now. Unfortunately, the main
application being used is Excel, and some of the workbooks cause Excel to
core. We've determined that there is some interaction between the Excel and
the VNC server software that's running on the same box (NT machine). If we
turn off VNC, Excel runs fine.
We're a Solaris (2.6) shop for the most part, using VNC server on a
headless NT (4.0) machine to give access to Excel (97) from the Solaris
machines.
Is this a known problem (I've searched the archives to no avail)? Any
workarounds/fixes?
Thanks for any help/insight you might offer,
Marty Backe
