I'm afraid most of the servers and viewers can't yet cope with 24-bit packed
pixel format. You can still use depth 24, but it needs to be 32
bits-per-pixel. If your graphics card won't support that, then as you
suspected, you'll have to drop down to depth 16 or lower.
