thanks for this tip - unfourtunatly it doesn't help. Still the same error. 
When I give a wrong path (for example port 7101 for the fontserver), 
Xvnc aborts at start with an error (fixed font not found). So another 
idea: at the office, it's working (Sparc, Solaris 2.5). Main difference 
to my setup at home: I have no dns here (of course also no NIS/+). 
Is it needed? And why is there something searching for chef.de 
(chef is the name of my maschine, a full qualified name is in 
/etc/hosts as first entry). Any ideas?

And thanks for the spripts - but first I want to get it working in the 
shell, then automated setup....
