I suspect that some of the instability problems may be related to
non-detection of interrupt-level operation, as opposed to user-level
operation.  I am currently researching methods of detecting this reliably,
on both PPC and 68K, and will report when finished.

PS: if anyone has a PowerPC assembler reference they can lend to me in
Lancaster.....
