MindVNC problem

I am trying to use the MindVNC java program and am consistently having connection
failures.  The sshd
reports the following when trying to connect to display #3:

Jan  5 11:41:47 xxxx PAM_pwdb[4251]: (ssh) session opened for user geoff by (uid=xxx)
Jan  5 11:41:47 xxxx sshd[4251]: log: Password authentication for geoff accepted.
Jan  5 11:41:48 xxxx sshd[4251]: error: connect 3:5900: Invalid argument
Jan  5 11:41:48 xxxx sshd[4251]: fatal: Local: Received oclosed for nonexistent channel

It would seem like MindVNC is incorrectly parsing the the display number to 3:5900 instead
of 5903, but I'm not familiar with java enough.  Has anyone gotten this program to work?
