vncserver generates xauth error on Solaris 7

I installed vncserver on a Solaris 7 machine. Before I can deal with
issues of firewall or ports, I have to be able to start the server. I
have set permissions on vncserver to world rx for testing purposes.
Once I am sure that I can execute the file, I get the error 'couldn't
find "xauth" in your PATH.'
After probing the Solaris 7 binary directories, I am persuaded that the
"xauth" program is not installed in an obvious location, although this
was a standard install of the system. I feel a little stupid with this
problem, because "xauth" seems essential to assigning permissions to
the user. vncviewer and vncpasswd work just fine.
What have other Solaris 7 users done to get the vnc server working?
