Plugin vs Applet

Has anyone converted the VNC viewer to a Netscape/IE plugin so that a
more native component could be used as opposed to the Java applet?  The
applet has some performance problems that I don't see with the native
viewer, but I'd like to use VNC mainly through a web browser.
