Server slowdown

Hello,
    I am running RedHat 6.2 with a more or less vanilla install and
config.  When I run about 8 vncservers off this machine it really bogs
down and starts giving me too many files open errors.  This machine is a
PIII 500 with 128M of RAM so it should be able to handle more than 8.
Any suggesstions?
