Sorry if this has already been answered, but I searched the message
archives and saw references to this problem but no resolutions or fixes.
I can connect if and only if I'm already logged in locally. For
example, if I "Close all programs and log in as a different user" I
can't connect anymore.
I'm running NT 4.0 SP6a
IE 5.5
VNC is installed as a service. I installed it as myself, proving I have
administrator privileges.
Below, I'm connecting from my Unix machine and I'm logged in locally on
the NT box.
..............................................
% vncviewer
VNC server supports protocol version 3.3 (viewer 3.3)
VNC authentication succeeded
Desktop name "rayer-pc"
Connected to VNC server, using protocol version 3.3
VNC server default format:
16 bits per pixel.
Least significant byte first in each pixel.
True colour: max red 31 green 63 blue 31, shift red 11 green 5 blue 0
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "grey"
Using default colormap and translating from BGR233. Pixel format:
8 bits per pixel.
True colour: max red 7 green 7 blue 3, shift red 0 green 3 blue 6
Got 8 exact BGR233 colours out of 256
Using 130 existing shared colours
..............................................
No problem! I close the vncviewer connection from my Unix box.
Now, I log off my NT machine, and try to connect again from the same
Unix machine:
..............................................
% vncviewer
VNC server supports protocol version 3.3 (viewer 3.3)
VNC authentication failed
..............................................
The server must be running, otherwise I wouldn't have been presented
with the password prompt, right?
I know I typed the password correctly, I've tried it too many times.
By the way, I can "Close all programs and log in as a different user"
while I'm connected, and I stay connected.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Raye.
