If the Mac has the Apple standard 15 pin D socket for the monitor then it
is simple, if it is one of the newer ones with a 15pin HD D socket (as used
on VGA monitors) then I'm not sure how that works. Anyway, for the older
Mac standard :

Get a 15 pin D plug and connect the following pins together :
To simulate a 13" monitor, connect pins 4 & 11.
To simulate a 21" monitor connect pins 4, 7, & 10 to 11.
To simulate a 13" multisync connect pins 7&10 together and connect pin 4 to
pin 11.
To simulate a 17" or 21" multusync connect pins 7 & 10 with a diode and
connect pin 4 to pin 11. The direction of the diode determines whether it
is 17" or 21".

My personal feeling is that it helps if the server has a smaller screen
than the viewer, otherwise you have to scroll around all the time.
