Is that from the server, or from the viewer, I think you're talking 
about the viewer...  Are you sure that /usr/bin is where your kde is 
installed to?  Use "whereis kde" to find it, the path that its located 
in will be the one you want to use to point VNC at it.  

Don't know much about the guts of Xserver and clients or the 
relationships between them, so I'm quite out of league on this.

What platform are you connecting from?
