Heads up to anyone who hasn't run into this, maybe its a really
basic thing but hey, I'm new to Linux:

I was telnetting in to my Linux box starting a VNC session and
then connecting to it with the viewer. No problem, unless I wanted
to start the VNC session as root. Naturally my box won't accept a
root telnet login so I had to login and su.

When I connected to the root VNC server all I would get would be
the gray screen with the "X" mouse cursor. So I was a good little
boy and checked the config files, looks at the vncserver script and
all that mess. One thing I didn't do until recently was check the
log file of the session that was giving me fits. When I did, it turns
out that is was that fact that I had started the server while I was
su'd to root and VNC starts up SUID root. It doesn't like that.

When I started the server logged in and the actual console of the
box it started up happily and that's the end of my story.

Just sharing info, because sharing is something I learned in
kindergarten.
