I believe that there is a version of WinVNC without the tray icon. It is
not developed by AT&T but you should be able to find reference to them
within the archives somewhere :)

Subject: system tray icon
We are County Library with downstream braches. We use Windows98 and Fortres
for locking down our PC's. Unfortunately, Fortres cannot lockout or prevent
a library patron from accessing the WinVNC Version 3.3.3R2 icon in the
system tray.
I've read Q44 on the VNC help page, but I cannot find the 'restricted' mode
it refers to.
Ideally, I want to lose the icon altogether.
Has anyone actually alerted the Windows98 registry or recompiled this
version of VNC so as to keep the service running but yet keep the icon from
appearing in the system tray?
Many thanks,
-John
