i checked via http, and its just gray there too. I figured out that
this is the ouput from xsetroot after looking around in my xstartup
file. But I stll haven't fixed it. Here's a load of uoutput....

the log file...

[root "at" Servix .vnc]# cat Servix.localdomain:1.log

NOTE: My machine isn't on the internet. Its a local network, and
there isn't any DNSing.

I'm trying to connect from this here mac, and I have to switch TCP
settings when I want to connect to the net via ppp as opposed to
being on the local network.

Servix is 10.0.0.1
My Mac is 10.0.0.3

The problem doesn't seem to be with the DNSing, but rather 'xrdb',
which is missing something early on. Heres what my xstartup file
looks like:

----------------CUT----------------
[root "at" Servix .vnc]# cat xstartup
#!/bin/sh

xrdb $HOME/.Xresources &
xsetroot -solid grey &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
/usr/bin/X11/twm &
----------------CUT----------------

and here is the output when I run vncserver

----------------CUT----------------
[root "at" Servix .vnc]# vncserver
xauth: (argv):1: bad display name "Servix.localdomain:1" in "add" command

New 'X' desktop is Servix.localdomain:1

Starting applications specified in /root/.vnc/xstartup
Log file is /root/.vnc/Servix.localdomain:1.log
----------------CUT----------------

Now, can someone make something of all this output?

thanks a million.
