a few good words about VNC

I have to say a few good words about VNC.
Our company uses a RAD tool called OMNIS Studio
(www.omnis-software.com). We write cross platform applications that can
be developed and deployed on various platforms (linux, mac, and win32).
We just started using Omnis Web Thin. This requires an Omnis
application server that runs in conjunction with Apache on Linux or IIS
on NT. Our company chose Apache on Linux for our web servers.
This is where VNC comes into the picture. The Omnis application server
only runs in X, communicating via telnet was not an option. Whenever
changes are made to the core application, it needs to be restarted for
the changes to take affect. This means closing the active application,
ftp the new copy in , and re-open the updated version. All of this has
to be physically done on the Omnis application server.
Up until now I needed to be in the same room as the Omnis application
server. With VNC we can update our app and restart it, on our mac or
windows boxes, all day long from anywhere.
I tip my hat to the creators of VNC. This is a great product.
