it looks like the winNT client has the "restrict pixels to 8-bit", and the
"raw" preferred encoding options turned on.
whether this is the new default, or whether something funky has crept into
the new version, try connecting fromt the gui of the viewer, and make sure
"HexTile" IS checked, and that "restrict pixels to 8-bit" is NOT checked in
the connection options...
