Yes, their system sounds basically identical to VNC, at least in
concept.  

"For each Sun Ray user, the virtual device driver maintains a copy of
the currently active desktop session in a memory-based virtual frame
buffer on the Sun Ray enterprise server. All display rendering is
performed on the server, and pixels are sent by the virtual device
driver to the enterprise appliance across the interconnection
framework.  Keyboard and mouse events are sent from the desktop back to
the virtual device driver on the server, transposed into X11 events, and
then sent on to applications."

In fact, *many* of the paragraphs on their web pages are almost
identical to things I've said when giving VNC demos.
