We've setup a central gateway server running VNC-SSL, it has a simple text form
login that the user enters the desired machine name you wish to connect to at
the desired res and color depth, it
(vnc server) then makes a connection to the X-server
running on the desired box (this only works with UNIX systems, but most of our
servers (and workstations) are Linux, Solaris or SGI. They are then given a
login screen (native to the OS), that compares their login to the /etc/passwd
(if they're not there, they don't get in). Also the applet is in a frame, so
that when they are finished, they click our scriupted disconnect rather than the
applet disconnect, this cleanly shuts down the X-ssion (so that there aren't
tons of rogue ones floating around)
