connecting using machine name

I've asked this before and have had limited success.  We're moving to a
DHCP server for assignment of IP addresses so I'd like to be able to
connect to a server using its machine name.  I was told that if both
machines had the microsoft client for microsoft networks loaded and both
were in the same workgroup that this would be possible.  What I'm
finding is that this works once I've connected to a server using IP.
However, recently that process has stopped working.  Any thoughts would
be greatly appreciated.  BTW - I'm connecting to windows 95 machines
from a windows 98 client.  Thanks.
