Using VNC to transmit video data (as was proposed for security camera...)

Hi,

just a thought about using VNC to transmit video over a network and
watch it on a remote PC.
Correct me if i am wrong, but i think the encoding used by VNC is base
on the transmission of homogeneous coulour rectangle coodinates. This
seems to me a bad choice to transmit video as such encoding will be very
inefficient due to the nature of a video scene. This will exhibit a
large overhead on such data.

I would say it is better to transmit raw pixels of every image
compressed. I see also here a major reason why the background image of a
desktop is usually slow to obtain at connection start.
I would suggest also that such appliance may preferably work by just
transmiting the video data and not the whole desktop, by polling at
video framerate...

I was to have a look at how to write a single app VNC server for such
app but still did not find the time...
Is there anybody trying to develop such single app VNC server for now?

What is your opinion about this ?

Fabrice
