Because I would be able to run multiple copies of it from a central, =
more powerful, machine, without wasting emulated CPU cycles on the VNC =
protocol.
And the basilisk rfb server would be a new display layer on basilisk, =
similar to the X and DGA layers - therefore far more efficient.

Not _very_ easily, but the intermediate meta-display layer is there.

Nope. Just a new display layer... Mind you, I won't do it myself - I =
don't have the time or the right toolchain on a stable Unix box.
But I'm currently running Basilisk in full-screen mode over a =
800x600x16bit Xvnc display (with a wrapper script and a few config =
tweaks) on a Sun box, and it screams over our switched Fast Ethernet =
LAN. I can only imagine what it might do if I cut out the Mac->X->VNC =
conversion... 8')
