I assume you didn't get to the last sentence of my reply. most of it was
about how the viewer won't run in basilisk, but the last sentence said
something to the effect of "lets try to convince the guys at VNC to get all
the vnc stuff running on 68k machines"....

so, the a little more bluntly this time: "If there was a vnc server that
ran inside basilisk, why go through the hassle of reconstructing basilisk
to support the vnc protocol directly?"

ie:

your methodology:

1) vnc client
to
2) basilisk rfb server (native to host machine)
to
3) basilisk emulator
running on
4) host machine

(given that 2 & 3 are/might be the same program)

shouldn't be any different than

1) vnc client
to
2) basilisk emulator
running
3) 68k VNC server
on
4) host Machine

...as far as the person who is running the client is concerned. you should
be able to simply enter an ip address and a password.

either way, you will need multiple basilisk emulators on the host machine.
the only question is whether a native VNC server running on the back side
of the basilisk emulator will be faster than a VNC server running inside
the emulator. I recently recompiled my VNC viewer for macintosh as a 68k
app, because of the bug I originally mentioned, and it actually runs MUCH
faster on the Basilisk emulator on a 300mhz pII than it does on my quadra
700. and the Basilisk is setup for 16bit video depth (q700 is only 8bpp).

this of course leaves us with two problems:

1) the macintosh server only works with PPC, no 68k version exists yet.
how easy would it be to get the server running on a 68k machine?

2) I haven't downloaded the source code for basilisk. Has anyone done
this? how difficult is it to compile?, does it allow backside (host os)
routines to be added easily? or will you essentially have to add a 68k
server to the display driver on the macintosh side of things?
