So do I just give up on trying to connect through the proxy server?
Any thoughts?

Greg,
I have not yet tried connecting to a server within our internal network, I
was connecting to a remote site who was working from his home.
There is no ADSL router per se, the NT Server I'm using has two network
cards in it... one for the intranet, and one for the ADSL internet
connection.
By using the proxy client software, and seting the ports in the Winsock
proxy I've managed to get most programs flowing in and out.... but I really
don't have all the details necessary (if it will work at all) to do the same
for vns.

Alan,
Your scenario is a bit confusing, but here's a crack at your problem.
First of all, I will assume from your posting that it is a true statement
that you can get a vnc client to connect with a vnc server when both client
and server are on the same INTERNAL network. (not thru proxy or ADSL
device). When you say that no one can connect to you, do you mean no one
from OUTSIDE your network, (i.e.: through the proxy and ADSL device)?
If this is true, I would recommend checking that your are allowing the
proper port(s) through your ADSL router. What brand of device is it?
Good Luck
