VNC crashing servers?

On more than one occasion now, when i dial into the office (RAS server
is a Dell 4100 running NT 4.0) from home (using win 98), i find VNC
crashes the server after a few minutes.

Basically, a few minutes after establishing a VNC connection, my VNC
window will suddenly close. Then i notice i no longer have a TCP/IP
connection (though the phone has not hung up). I disconnect and try to
dial in again, except this time the server doesn't answer the phone. I
get in my car and drive down to the office to check out the server and
it's locked, requiring a hard reboot. This situation ONLY occurs when
VNC is used to control a machine on the network over dialup. It works
fine when used locally on the LAN.

Anyone have any ideas?
