Direct Phone Connection

I have no doubt this question has been asked before but I'm new to this
list so humble apologies for asking it.

A friend and myself have only just started experimenting with VNC using
it via an TCP/IP connection and we are very impressed.

The help section mentions a direct modem dial up would be simple so I
would like to ask - any suggestions as to how this is done ?

I do know how to connect directly with someone else (Setting modem
to auto answer etc) but when connected how do we link up using VNC ?
