(Second question:) No, I don't think there is what you want. Some time
ago I made a "hack" (more than a real version) of VNC for Windows using
zlib compression. This includes a server and a viewer, but both work
only in Windows. If you want to make a version of the viewer for linux,
I can give some help (it shouldn't be too complicated, taking the
changes made in the Windows viewer as a starting point). If you want
