Yes, you need the -shared option on the viewer, or its equivalent from
the Options dialog box, depending on the viewer you're using. Please see
the docs for details.

It sounds as if your title bar may have complex shadin/graphics in it?
Sometimes they can appear to be a solid colour when they are in fact
dithered.  Try changing the configuration of your window manager, and
have a look in the FAQ at the hints about speeding things up.
