VNC Server & Caldera 2.2

My vnc server on Caldera 2.2 appears to be working fine, but the background
color is ALWAYS the grey color of the X server.  None of my customizations
seem to work.  Any ideas?

On my RH6 box, I can change bg color with no problems.
