Agreed.  That is why I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than myself
could figure out how to set up some sort of challenge-response relay (or
something like that) inside the server.  Otherwise I'll have to stick with
the existing challenge-response code in standard VNC.

Good point.  Arguably, though, if you have to send your passwords in
plaintext to get through your firewall then your firewall may as well not be
there at all.
