Excessive Crashes on Mac -> Mac

I've read the FAQ, the docs, the archive, and about everything that I could
find, and I'm drawing a blank.  I was hoping that someone here could help.

I've just installed VNCServer on a 400 MHz Mac G3, and am connecting from a
350 MHz Mac G3 - both running MacOS 8.6.  They connect just fine, and then,
after about a minute or so, the server machine locks up and has to be
restarted.  All that I do is open and close a few desktop windows (it
crashes before I can test and further).

Any suggestions?
