I may be way off base, but wouldn't it be possible to "interlace" the
image - either send every other scan line or even better every other
pixel (offset by one for each row). That should give enough information
to use an application - it should just appear "grayed out". The server
could then send the rest of the image information in "spare time" when
there are no other updates to do. Theoretically, during times where
there is a large number of updates, only half the bandwidth would be
used. Of course, this would be a tradeoff between viewability and
speed, but to me actually seeing the windows grainy is better then not
seeing them at all. What do you guys think?
