Hello!

As I recall, there was mentioned an idea to rewrite Windows VNC
server as a driver. I don't remember, though, why it was not done.
(Or was it? :)

Certainly, in most cases you wouldn't like to get rid of the local access
to the computer. You can't run vnc viewer on "another display" on the
same computer as in the case of X-windows.

But even that configuration would be very useful for folk who is not
interested in local access and would rather like to use, say, EGA
card (and may be no monitor) to start the computer, but get 1536x1024
32bit truecolor on remote vnc screen.
I have situations when I'd be vary glad to be able to do it.

An even better compromise could be if the driver would contain some
means to display an approximation (say, 640x480 subwindow with 16colors
with any VGA-compatible card) on the local screen. Then the computer would
be usable/debuggable in case vnc would fail for some reason.

Is it really hard to do a "driver" server implementation?
(next to zero knowledge about Windows drivers...)-:

Regards,
