According to Mike Miller:

Extensions are just that: extra things supplied by the vendor or author of
the X server. Some have become standard - notably the Shape extension,
double buffering, and a few others. In your case, though, Display PostScript
is an extension supplied by Sun. There is no free DPS extension available
for X, as far as I know.

However, you *can* view PostScript without it - use GNU GhostScript and an X
front end to it, such as ghostview or mgv. It is even possible to hack
AnswerBook (the help viewer) settings to use ghostview instead of the
standard Sun PostScript viewer (which relies on DPS, of course).
Unfortunately, I don't have the details handy, but I believe the necessary
scripts and tools are still available from the X Consortium ftp server
(ftp.x.org, in one of the subdirectories of the contrib directory).

The other extensions are unlikely to be a problem, unless you want to run
Wabi (Sun's Windows 3.1 emulator).

GNU ghostscript and ghostview are available from any site that mirrors GNU
software. mgv is available from ftp.x.org (and is better than ghostview,
IMHO, but does require Motif.)
