Cut and Paste between NT and Unix

I am using VNC with a viewer on a NT platform and the server on a Unix
platform (Digital Unix 4.0) with X11R6.
I am using the VNC cut and paste facilities to copy to/from the two
systems. I seems that the copy and paste in the X system is using the
CUTBUFFER0, while most "modern" X applications are using the PRIMARY
As it is now I always have to use the xclipboard application to get
something copied.
Does any body know if this can be changed (so that VNC uses the PRIMARY
