Color Depth in window

Hi I am happily running a VNC server under IRIX with a mac client. One of
the main packages I use however is Cerius which supports 24-bit color depth
under X. Is there some way to get the VNC client to transmit this
information or am I limited to a 256 color pallette?  Thanks for any info.
