Restarting vncserver on same port

Some OSes provide this function via setsockopt() and SO_REUSEADDR (see
setsockopt(2)). I know Linux does this. Probably Solaris as well.

However, there is a the larger question of when to use it and when not to...
Perhaps, a command line option (-force) can effect this. In anycase, it
shouldn't be too major a hack to do.

Subject: Restarting vncserver on same port

Hi folks:

Add me to the list of satified users of VNC. I use it daily and it's fairly
solid. But, like everyone else, I've got a minor issue.

I use vncserver fairly regularly on a Sparc Solaris 2.5.1 box. I usually
leave the process running and connect to it as needed. Occasionally, I
restart it to either implement configuration changes. If I kill the
process using 'vncserver -kill :10' and then attempt to restart it with
'vncserver :10', I get the message 'A VNC server is already running as :10'.
Nothing is running on these ports, though there are a few connections
in "TIME_WAIT" on port 6010 according to netstat -an.

Is there something I can do to VNC to allow it to restart right away? Is
there something I can tweak on the OS of this machine? Any thoughts
on this?
