Strange LIST protocol

I know I'm probably being a boring old **** but...

I have just set up a filter for posts from this LIST and it is being almost
totally ineffective since a number of key contributors for some strange
reason are choosing to reply primarily to an individual in response to
their post *and then copy to the LIST*! This results in the To: field *not*
containing the LIST name.

I have never understood this activity on LISTs in general, since the person
concerned must, by definition, be a LIST member and therefore ends up with
two copies of the post. It (almost) never happens on the three LISTs I run
which are set to 'reply to LIST', but is very common on those that are
'reply to sender'... perhaps not surprisingly.

If anyone has a rational explanation for why they do this, I would love to
hear it.. but please don't trouble the LIST.. reply to me direct.
