I tried running this on RedHat 5.1 at work. It has linux
kernel 2.1.123.
Both the viewer and the java version work approximately
the same way.
What happens is the window comes up, and only a few
events seem to work. Keystrokes are ignored unless the
letter P is pressed (at least that is what appears to be
happening), at that point I get \030\043\020 printed in the
xterm window for vnc.
I can resize a window, but not move it. I ran both
fvwm2 and twm. the signon of the terminal window works, I
get the [path]: prompt in the xterm window.
I suspect major kernel differences between kernel 2.0.x
and 2.1.x. Some great work in the future.
I believe the moral of the story is, "don't try this at
home".
BTW, the software manager here barely tolerates Linux.
He says it isn't going anywhere because it is a hobby
operating system. He is being forced to use it over strong
objections. NIBMS is his problem. (Not Invented By
MicroSoft)
