I never heard back from James, can anyone provide some insights on this
(and yes, I did resend it to him with the correct e-mail)?
Barry

Good day James... My partner, who is located in Chelmsford, is still
having problems... He has done a pretty good job detailing his actions
and the results. Please look this over and see if you have any
thoughts.
Best regards,
Barry

Barry,
I did indeed follow his suggestions. Rather than going to the Program Group
and running the registry update that way, I just openned up all the
directories and double clicked on the icon. Still no luck. Renaming did not
work either. I also tried using the command prompt. This did not work
either. Running the setup.exe program from the command prompt DID get the
service installed whereas it did not work before when I double clicked the
setup.exe icon. Hence I am getting closer.
What I did was:
1. Shut off all Windows Apps
2. Tried 3 different methods of running the registry update program:
A. I went to "Install Default Registry Settings" in the VNC program
group
B. I Openned up the VNC directory and double-clicked the "VNCHooks.reg"
icon (I renamed this what I renamed the file as)
C. I used the command prompt to try and run the "VNCHooks.reg" program
All three methods resulted in the same error message: "Access to the
specified device, path, or file is denied." This message appears in a small
window with a red circle and a white X in it. There is an OK button and
along the top of the window it has the path name "C:\Program
Files\ORL\VNC\VNCHooks.reg". When I tried to run the program from the
command prompt the error message came up like and ordinary DOS error message
rather than with the little window.
Should all users be disconnected when I run this program? This has not been
the case so far. Seems to me that the registry is protecting itself somehow.
