Even if you hide VNC, I suspect that your employees will find out about it
rather quickly.

This may not apply to you, but I recall reading a study back in the 80s
that suggests monitoring employees will DECREASE their productivity.

A typing pool was monitored for speed and # of errors

  1) Control group - didn't know they were being watched

  2) Monitored group - knew they were monitored

  3) In-Control group - had a switch to turn off monitoring
Told there would be no penalty if they did so

Results:

  1) Monitored group (1) made significantly more mistakes
and was slower than Control group (2)

  2) No difference between Control group (1) and
     In-Control group (2)

  3) In-Control group (3) almost never used the switch

"Looking over the shoulder" of people has a significant negative effect on
productivity unless they feel in control. They rarely "hide" from
monitoring, but take comfort from the fact that they can hide if they want
to.
