I have tried the following out briefly:
Sharp Mobilon HC4000a connecting to Win NT4.0 server. The controlled
machine was running at 800x600 256 colours.
The Mobilon is a MIPS based machine with 4Mb of RAM and a 640x240
greyscale screen running CE 2.0 with no patch. It's about as basic as an
HPC gets.
I do not have a network card for my HPC, so I was using a PCMCIA modem.
As a result, I could not really give you any guide to performance. The
card I was using is a Xircom 56k/10/100 one, but is unfortunately not
supported by CE 2.0 other than as a modem.
Initially it seems to work fine, bar the lacklustre performance, which
is not VNC's fault. What was most impressive was the very feat of doing
this at all. Sitting at home in East London, I was able to connect to
our London dial-up service, and remotely administer a server at the end
of a 2Mb line in Kent. All this using a battery powered machine that
fits in a jacket pocket.
I will try it some more over the next few days.
