Shift/Alt/etc.

Probably no way around this, but under X (Linux) I use Alt-Fn
combinations to switch windows, and C-A-Fn combinations to switch
virtual consoles.  What this means for vncviewer, though, is that I
press the Alt key, and that part gets sent to a remote Win95 machine,
then I press the Fn key, and --- presto --- I've left vncviewer
altogether.  The Alt key is now "stuck" on the real Win95 machine,
making it unusable.  What to do?

(The DOS emulator I use under Linux suffers from the same problem.)
