A newbie here,

making a plea for help to those who are using WinVNC with Unix/Linux
(Redhat V4 if that makes a difference). I am getting a blank X window,
and nothing more!! Things that have been tried.

* WinVNC to WinVNC worked

* VNC to VNC running under X worked, once the windows manager was
changed from twm to fvwm (which is the only windows manager I have
configured for our system).

* Changing the fonts to match those in the existing X configuration file
did nothing.

* Changing the windows manager did nothing.

* Various combinations of the above did nothing

* The vnc log suggests no obvious problems, apart from an 'ignoring
unknown encoding type 3' which the mail archive suggests is
unimportant. The log for a short session is as follows.

04/08/98 17:16:04 Xvnc version 3.3.2r2

04/08/98 17:16:04 Desktop name 'X' (cit3:2)
04/08/98 17:16:04 Protocol version supported 3.3
04/08/98 17:16:04 Listening for VNC connections on TCP port 5902
04/08/98 17:16:04 Listening for HTTP connections on TCP port 5802

04/08/98 17:16:35 Got connection from client 10.18.17.95
04/08/98 17:16:35 Protocol version 3.3
04/08/98 17:16:39 Pixel format for client 10.18.17.95:
04/08/98 17:16:39 16 bpp, depth 16, little endian
04/08/98 17:16:39 true colour: max r 63 g 31 b 31, shift r 0 g 6 b 11
04/08/98 17:16:39 rfbSetTranslateFunction: client is 16-bit trueColour,
server has colour map
04/08/98 17:16:39 Using hextile

* We are using hextile encoding. There are about a million things in
the VNC server startup script that could be changed - anyone care to
suggest an angle of attack?
